Petrichor house.
Named after the deep earthy scent that rises from the ground after the first rain.
A home to be sat quietly amongst the eucalypts, watching out over the sprawling natural landscape that has been farmed by the family for generations, and will be for generations to come.
A brief that required a functional farmhouse for a young family, and one day, the next generations family and hold all the weddings in-between.
Carefully sited atop a ridge, the home surveys the seasonal colour changes over the rolling hills, from the sea of rich greens gradually changing to the golden tones of a summer harvest, reflected back through the material palette to the spaces inside.
Designed with the traditional farmhouse pitched roof as the central inspiration, the clients want for this to incorporate a contemporary aesthetic, melding subtle greys, spotted gum cladding and hand stacked stone, a palette of durable materials to weather the storms that the exposed ridge would bear.

After the mammoth efforts from everyone involved, Petrichor is heading towards completion in mid 2021.
We have collated a number of images of the project over the course of construction, to capture the character of the site and the gradual assembly of Petrichor.
